SUTTON CHENEY is a village and chapelry, in the parish of, and 2 miles s. by e. from, Market Bosworth, and 5 miles n.n.w. from Hinckley; containing 302 inhabitants, and 1,520 acres of land. The living is a curacy, annexed to the rectory of Market Bosworth. The church, dedicated to St. James, is a Gothic building, with a low square tower.

Adjoining the churchyard are almshouses for six poor men, who each receive 20s. per quarter, founded and endowed by Sir William Roberts in 1612. Here is a National school. The Ashby-de-la-Zouch canal passes to the west of the village, between which, and the village, is Redmoor plain, the site of the memorable battle of Bosworth field.
