Truman Colby
Dies; Was Resident of Rockford 87 Years

Rockford, Aug. 23 -- Truman Colby, 89, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Graves of Rockford.

Mr. Colby had lived in and around Rockford the last 87 years. He was a Civil war veteran and had been a member of the Rockford Masonic lodge 65 years and held a life membership.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Graves and Mrs. George Norton of Rockford; two sons, Forrest of Rockford and Roy of Grayling. Funeral services will be help at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Graves home, under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Interment will be in Plainfield cemetery.

He was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery at Plainfield, Kent County, Michigan Served in the Civil War from Grand Rapids, Michigan, elistment 23 January 1864, private, age 19. Parents: Horace C. COLBY and Ruth BARKER.

Golden Wedding Couple Celebrate Date Informally
Greeting their friends today at an informal open house are Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Colby, of 1019 West Third street, who are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Colby will climax the observance tonight when they will be honored at a family dinner party, with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Colby as host couple. Joining in the group will be Mr. and Mrs. Jack Palmer (Charlotte Colby) grandson-in-law and granddaughter of the anniversary pair.
It was 50 years ago today that Miss Emma Banister of Erie, Pa., became bride of U. S. Colby, at a ceremony read in Grand Valley, Pa., where the couple made their home for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Colby moved to this city in 1920, when the former retired from active business.
Many friends called at the home, showering the celebrants with cards and remembrances. Assisting in greeting guests were Mrs. Harry Colby and Mrs. Palmer.
